Hello, wat
Welcome to wat.
We built this place because we kept wanting one tool, and finding three. We wanted to write long, careful essays — and have them rendered with the kind of typography you'd expect from a book. We wanted to keep living documentation for our projects — without leaving the editor. And we wanted to jot down a sentence or a paragraph, the way you might into a journal, without first deciding whether it deserves a title.
Wat is a notebook engine. You can have many notebooks. Each one lives at its own URL. Each one is either a blog — a continuous stream of posts, short or long — or a set of docs — a tree of living pages.
“The first draft of anything is shit.” — said Hemingway, who would have liked Markdown.
That's the whole product, more or less. The rest is taste:
- A serif optimized for reading at length.
- A code stack tuned for the kind of post that ends with a benchmark.
- Tables, footnotes, task lists, and all the niceties of extended Markdown.
- Discord and Twitter previews that aren't ugly by default.
We made it in Luxembourg, on a small machine, in a small country, with a small team. We hope you write something good.
